The Cheesecake Factory - Located 0.4 miles from the hotel.

And of course, there's Winstead's - Opened in 1940, this “soda shop” is a legendary Kansas City landmark. Drive-up open 24/7. Author and Kansas City native Calvin Trillin swears by its burgers and malts. One block south of the hotel, one block east of the Plaza, just across the street. Look for the big neon sign.

Before there was a Kansas City, there was a Westport, built along the Santa Fe Trail as an outfitting center for wagon trains heading west. Today the area is filled with renovated and new buildings housing trendy shops, restaurants, and nightspots. Located in midtown, Westport is just north of the Country Club Plaza, not quite a mile. Just bop north up Madison Avenue (on the west side of the Plaza) or JC Nichols Parkway (on the east side of the Plaza), past 43rd Street until you hit Westport Road. BTW, hunting for a parking space is a pastime unto itself, so best walk or (even better) grab a cab just outside the hotel. There are a zillion bars and clubs in the area, so just walk around and take your pick. One caution: tends to get very crowded and popular on Saturday nights, and police traffic barricades start popping up to frustrate the Bubbas and the Teen Crowd.
