Folks, the Royals Win!! (That's Kansas City Royals Baseball.) They won the Pennant on Oct. 15 and now are in the middle of the World Series! What does this mean to you?
Well, that the Plaza shops and such near the conference hotels may be swarming with people in "royal blue" jerseys, taking up space for your "quick little lunch," especially at the sports bars in the area (although not until near game time).
The Royals play their World Series home games on Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 21, 22), then travel to San Francisco, then back to K.C. People who don't travel to those games WILL be watching any and all televisions within a 40-mile circumference, including the two in the Marriott bar area.
Royals haven't been in contention for the World Series since 1985, and this crew just blew past their first two teams this post-season with nary a loss. Fans are rabid right now in Kansas City. Just flow with it!

Advanced Video Cataloging
Cataloging Audio Recordings with RDA

Poster Sessions
We want to ensure that all of the sessions, workshops, and keynote addresses are summarized for publication in the December issues of the OLAC Newsletter and the MOUG Newsletter. If you plan to go to the joint OLAC-MOUG Conference in Kansas City, please consider being a reporter for one or more of the sessions you attend. The Conference reports serve two primary purposes: to inform those who were unable to attend and to provide a record of what OLAC and MOUG does to support and enrich the professional lives of its members.
You report will be published in both the OLAC Newsletter and the MOUG Newsletter, with your name and affiliation credited in the byline of the report. This report can be used as a publication credit in a non-peer-reviewed library periodical.
Reports do not have to be exhaustive, only informative. Please review the reports for the 2012 OLAC conference in the December 2012 newsletter, which can be found at http://www.olacinc.org under Publications & Training Materials, Newsletters, to get an idea of what is expected.
If you have any interest in being a Conference reporter, please contact me as soon as possible at [email protected]. Please indicate your reporting preferences, if any. Thanks for your consideration.
Jan Mayo
OLAC Conference Reports Editor

Why a Little Teapot?
It’s been a running joke that when registering for the OLAC-MOUG Conference and not completely filling out the registration form, the WuFoo software prompts “I’m a little teapot.” Why, of course you are! Aren't we all?
All proceeds will be divided up to benefit the OLAC Conference Scholarship fund and the MOUG Ralph Papakhian Travel Grant fund. The winner will be announced at the business meeting lunch* on Saturday, Oct. 25.
* While you don't need to be present at the business meeting, you do need to be available to collect your prize - by noon on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the latest.

Call for Lightning Talk Submissions
We will be offering a session of Lightning Talks at the conference.
Lightning Talks are designed to be short presentations in order to share with others ideas and concepts of a MOUG or OLAC focus. The goal is to demonstrate a topic in a quick and insightful manner. PowerPoint slides are fine, but do not forget other possible means of presentation: videos, music, hand-puppets or even an interpretive dance, as long as it’s useful and informative. (One wonders what an RDA Interpretive Dance would be like. We’ll probably have to wait until the local arrangements reception!)
Talks are arranged one after the other during the session. Each presenter gets FIVE minutes, and only five minutes. Yes, we have a stop-watch.
We are currently accepting applications for presentations to be considered for this session.
If you're interested, please submit your proposal to Michelle Turvey-Welch by Monday, July 14, at [email protected]. Please include your name, contact information, title of presentation and a brief description. The Program Committee will be reviewing these and finalizing the presenters by Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.
